What the Bible Says about
Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage

We can summarize the teaching of Jesus and the apostles on our subject in three simple statements:

  1. Marriage is for life.

  2. Divorce of a lawful companion is wrong.

  3. Remarriage while one's former partner is still living is adulterous and continues to be so as long as the relationship continues.
Today, those who wish to follow the teaching of Jesus and the apostles in these matters find themselves in the minority, even among professed Christians. If the Biblical position is to be maintained, ministers must be faithful in teaching it and living pure lives themselves. Men and women of God must joyfully accept their roles and responsibilities as God has ordained. The church and home must cooperate in maintaining strong family units. And parents must order their homes in the ways of holiness and truth, and keep their homes free from worldly influences.

May the Lord raise up fathers and mothers and sons and daughters who have the courage to live for God and leave a testimony of faith in this sinful and adulterous generation.

"When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8).
